Iconio

1 Aconteció en Iconio, que entraron juntos en la sinagoga de los judíos, y hablaron de tal manera que creyó una gran multitud, tanto de judíos como de griegos.

2 Pero los judíos que desobedecieron, incitaron y contaminaron las mentes de los gentiles contra los hermanos.

3 A pesar de ello, permanecieron allí mucho tiempo, hablando osadamente con el apoyo del Señor, dando Dios testimonio a la palabra de su gracia, y concediendo que por sus manos se hicieran señales milagrosas y prodigios.

4 Y la población de la ciudad se dividió; unos estaban con los judíos, y otros con los apóstoles.

5 Pero al surgir un intento de gentiles y judíos, junto con sus gobernantes, para maltratarlos y apedrearlos,

6 se enteraron de ello y huyeron a Listra y a Derbe, ciudades de Licaonia, y a la región circunvecina.

7 Y allí se quedaron proclamando el evangelio.

Listra y Derbe

8 Había en Listra cierto hombre inválido de los pies, estaba sentado y era cojo desde el vientre de su madre, y nunca había andado.

9 Éste oyó hablar a Pablo, el cual, fijando sus ojos en él, y viendo que tenía fe para ser sanado,

10 dijo a gran voz: ¡Levántate derecho sobre tus pies! Y él dio un salto y echó a andar.

11 Entonces las multitudes, viendo lo que había hecho Pablo, alzaron la voz, diciendo en lengua licaónica: ¡Los dioses han descendido hasta nosotros en forma humana!

12 Y a Bernabé llamaban Zeus, y a Pablo, Hermes, porque llevaba la palabra.

13 Y el sacerdote de Zeus (cuyo templo está delante de la ciudad) trajo toros enguirnaldados delante de las puertas, y quería ofrecer sacrificios juntamente con el pueblo.

14 Pero cuando los apóstoles Bernabé y Pablo lo oyeron, se rasgaron el manto y se lanzaron en medio del gentío, gritando

15 y diciendo: Varones, ¿por qué hacéis estas cosas? También nosotros somos hombres semejantes a vosotros, y os anunciamos el evangelio, para que de estas vanidades os convirtáis al Dios vivo, que hizo el cielo, la tierra y el mar, y todas las cosas que hay en ellos;

16 el cual, en las edades pasadas, ha permitido que todas las gentes anduvieran en sus caminos;

17 si bien no se dejó a sí mismo sin testimonio, haciendo el bien, dándoos lluvias del cielo y tiempos fructíferos, y llenando de sustento y de alegría vuestros corazones.

18 Diciendo estas cosas, a duras penas calmaron a la multitud, para que no les ofrecieran sacrificio.

19 Pero llegaron unos judíos de Antioquía y de Iconio, y después de persuadir a las turbas, apedrearon a Pablo y lo arrastraron fuera de la ciudad, dándolo por muerto.

20 Pero siendo rodeado por los discípulos, se levantó y entró en la ciudad; y al día siguiente, partió con Bernabé hacia Derbe.

21 Después de anunciar el evangelio en aquella ciudad y hacer muchos discípulos, regresaron a Listra, a Iconio y a Antioquía,

22 fortaleciendo los ánimos de los discípulos; y exhortándolos a permanecer en la fe, les decían: Es necesario que entremos en el reino de Dios a través de muchas tribulaciones.

23 Y después que les designaron ancianos en cada iglesia y oraron con ayunos, los encomendaron al Señor en quien habían creído.

Regreso de los misioneros

24 Pasando por Pisidia, atravesaron Panfilia,

25 y después de hablar la palabra en Perge, bajaron a Atalia.

26 De allí navegaron a Antioquía, donde habían sido encomendados a la gracia de Dios para la obra que habían cumplido.

27 Cuando llegaron y reunieron a la iglesia, les informaron de todo lo que Dios había hecho con ellos, y cómo había abierto a los gentiles la puerta de la fe.

28 Y se quedaron con los discípulos no poco tiempo.

1 And it came to pass in Iconium, that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed.

2 But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren.

3 Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands.

4 But the multitude of the city was divided: and part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles.

5 And when there was an assault made both of the Gentiles, and also of the Jews with their rulers, to use them despitefully, and to stone them,

6 They were ware of it, and fled unto Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and unto the region that lieth round about:

7 And there they preached the gospel.

8 And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother's womb, who never had walked:

9 The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed,

10 Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.

11 And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men.

12 And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the chief speaker.

13 Then the priest of Jupiter, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people.

14 Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out,

15 And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:

16 Who in times past suffered all nations to walk in their own ways.

17 Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

18 And with these sayings scarce restrained they the people, that they had not done sacrifice unto them.

19 And there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and, having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead.

20 Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe.

21 And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch,

22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

23 And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.

24 And after they had passed throughout Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia.

25 And when they had preached the word in Perga, they went down into Attalia:

26 And thence sailed to Antioch, from whence they had been recommended to the grace of God for the work which they fulfilled.

27 And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.

28 And there they abode long time with the disciples.
