1Entonces Ahitofel dijo a Absalón: Permíteme ahora que escoja doce mil hombres, y me levantaré para perseguir a David esta misma noche;2y caeré sobre él cuando esté cansado y débil de manos, y lo atemorizaré; de modo que huirá toda la gente que lo acompaña; y mataré solamente al rey,3porque él es el hombre a quien tú estás buscando. Así haré volver a ti a todo el pueblo; y cuando todos hayan vuelto, todo el pueblo estará en paz.4Y pareció acertado el consejo ante los ojos de Absalón y ante los ojos de todos los ancianos de Israel.5Pero Absalón dijo: Deseo que se llame también a Husai arquita, para que oigamos lo que hay en su boca.6Y Husai fue a Absalón, y Absalón le habló, diciendo: Conforme a esta palabra ha hablado Ahitofel, ¿realizaremos su palabra? Si no, habla tú.7Entonces Husai dijo a Absalón: Esta vez el consejo que ha dado Ahitofel no es bueno.8Y agregó Husai: Tú conoces a tu padre y a sus hombres, que son valerosos; y están amargados en espíritu cual osa en el campo que le han robado sus cachorros. También tu padre es un hombre aguerrido, y no pasará la noche entre el pueblo.9He aquí que ahora mismo estará escondido en algún hoyo, o en algún otro lugar; y cuando al comienzo caigan algunos de los tuyos, cualquiera que lo oiga dirá: ¡Se hace estrago entre la gente que sigue a Absalón!10Y aun aquel que es valeroso y cuyo espíritu sea como el corazón del león, desfallecerá completamente, porque todo Israel sabe que tu padre es un hombre aguerrido y que los que están con él son valerosos.11Por lo cual yo aconsejo que diligentemente sea reunido en derredor tuyo todo Israel, desde Dan hasta Beerseba, en gran número, como la arena que hay en el mar, y que tú en persona marches en medio de ellos.12De esta suerte iremos contra él en algún lugar, dondequiera que se halle, y caeremos sobre él como el rocío cae sobre la tierra; y no sobrevivirá nadie; ni él ni ninguno de todos los hombres que están con él.13Y si se llegara a refugiar dentro de alguna ciudad, entonces se hará que todo Israel traiga cuerdas a aquella ciudad, y la arrastraremos hasta el valle, hasta que no se encuentre allí ni una sola piedra.14A lo cual dijeron Absalón y todos los hombres de Israel: El consejo de Husai arquita es mejor que el consejo de Ahitofel (porque YHVH había dispuesto que el buen consejo de Ahitofel se frustrara, para que YHVH hiciera venir la calamidad sobre Absalón).15Y Husai dijo a los sacerdotes Sadoc y Abiatar: Ahitofel ha aconsejado así y así a Absalón y a los ancianos de Israel; y así y así les he aconsejado yo.16Ahora pues enviad rápidamente y avisad a David, diciendo: No pases la noche en los vados del desierto sino cruza al otro lado sin falta, no sea que el rey y el pueblo que está con él sean destruidos.17Jonatán y Ahimaas se habían detenido en la fuente de Rogel, y como no podían ser vistos entrando a la ciudad, una criada fue y les informó; y ellos partieron para avisar al rey David.18Pero un joven los vio e informó a Absalón, así que los dos, saliendo deprisa, llegaron a casa de un hombre en Bahurim que tenía un pozo en su patio, al cual bajaron.19Y tomando la mujer una manta, la extendió sobre la boca del pozo, y esparció sobre ella trigo machacado; y no se supo nada del asunto.20Entonces los siervos de Absalón fueron a la mujer de la casa y dijeron: ¿Dónde están Ahimaas y Jonatán? Y la mujer les dijo: Han pasado el vado del río. Y los buscaron, pero al no hallarlos, volvieron a Jerusalem.21Después que se marcharon, aconteció que ellos subieron del pozo, y fueron y avisaron al rey David. Y dijeron a David: ¡Levantaos y cruzad rápidamente las aguas, porque así y así ha aconsejado Ahitofel contra vosotros!22Se levantó pues David y todo el pueblo que estaba con él, y cruzaron el Jordán, y ya al amanecer no quedaba ninguno que no hubiera cruzado el Jordán.23Ahitofel entonces, viendo que no se había seguido su consejo, enalbardó el asno, y subiendo en él, se fue a su casa, a su ciudad; y dispuso su familia, y se ahorcó, y murió, y fue enterrado en el sepulcro de su padre.24Y David llegó a Mahanaim cuando Absalón cruzaba el Jordán con todos los hombres de Israel.25Y Absalón puso a Amasa sobre el ejército en lugar de Joab; este Amasa era hijo de un hombre llamado Itra, israelita, el cual se había llegado a Abigail hija de Nahas, hermana de Sarvia, madre de Joab.26E Israel acampó con Absalón en tierra de Galaad.27Cuando David llegó a Mahanaim, Sobi, hijo de Nahas, de Rabá, de los hijos de Amón, y Maquir ben Amiel, de Lodebar, y Barzilai galaadita, de Rogelim,28llevaron camas, y tazones, y vasijas de barro, y trigo, y cebada, y harina, y grano tostado, y habas, y lentejas, y semilla tostada,29y miel, y leche, y ovejas, y quesos de vaca, y los presentaron a David y al pueblo que estaba con él para que comieran, pues pensaron: El pueblo estará en el desierto, hambriento, cansado y sediento.

1Moreover Ahithophel said unto Absalom, Let me now choose out twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue after David this night:2And I will come upon him while he is weary and weak handed, and will make him afraid: and all the people that are with him shall flee; and I will smite the king only:3And I will bring back all the people unto thee: the man whom thou seekest is as if all returned: so all the people shall be in peace.4And the saying pleased Absalom well, and all the elders of Israel.5Then said Absalom, Call now Hushai the Archite also, and let us hear likewise what he saith.6And when Hushai was come to Absalom, Absalom spake unto him, saying, Ahithophel hath spoken after this manner: shall we do after his saying? if not; speak thou.7And Hushai said unto Absalom, The counsel that Ahithophel hath given is not good at this time.8For, said Hushai, thou knowest thy father and his men, that they be mighty men, and they be chafed in their minds, as a bear robbed of her whelps in the field: and thy father is a man of war, and will not lodge with the people.9Behold, he is hid now in some pit, or in some other place: and it will come to pass, when some of them be overthrown at the first, that whosoever heareth it will say, There is a slaughter among the people that follow Absalom.10And he also that is valiant, whose heart is as the heart of a lion, shall utterly melt: for all Israel knoweth that thy father is a mighty man, and they which be with him are valiant men.11Therefore I counsel that all Israel be generally gathered unto thee, from Dan even to Beersheba, as the sand that is by the sea for multitude; and that thou go to battle in thine own person.12So shall we come upon him in some place where he shall be found, and we will light upon him as the dew falleth on the ground: and of him and of all the men that are with him there shall not be left so much as one.13Moreover, if he be gotten into a city, then shall all Israel bring ropes to that city, and we will draw it into the river, until there be not one small stone found there.14And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For the LORD had appointed to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that the LORD might bring evil upon Absalom.15Then said Hushai unto Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, Thus and thus did Ahithophel counsel Absalom and the elders of Israel; and thus and thus have I counselled.16Now therefore send quickly, and tell David, saying, Lodge not this night in the plains of the wilderness, but speedily pass over; lest the king be swallowed up, and all the people that are with him.17Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz stayed by Enrogel; for they might not be seen to come into the city: and a wench went and told them; and they went and told king David.18Nevertheless a lad saw them, and told Absalom: but they went both of them away quickly, and came to a man' house in Bahurim, which had a well in his court; whither they went down.19And the woman took and spread a covering over the well' mouth, and spread ground corn thereon; and the thing was not known.20And when Absalom' servants came to the woman to the house, they said, Where is Ahimaaz and Jonathan? And the woman said unto them, They be gone over the brook of water. And when they had sought and could not find them , they returned to Jerusalem.21And it came to pass, after they were departed, that they came up out of the well, and went and told king David, and said unto David, Arise, and pass quickly over the water: for thus hath Ahithophel counselled against you.22Then David arose, and all the people that were with him, and they passed over Jordan: by the morning light there lacked not one of them that was not gone over Jordan.23And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his ass, and arose, and gat him home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order, and hanged himself, and died, and was buried in the sepulchre of his father.24Then David came to Mahanaim. And Absalom passed over Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him.25And Absalom made Amasa captain of the host instead of Joab: which Amasa was a man' son, whose name was Ithra an Israelite, that went in to Abigail the daughter of Nahash, sister to Zeruiah Joab' mother.26So Israel and Absalom pitched in the land of Gilead.27And it came to pass, when David was come to Mahanaim, that Shobi the son of Nahash of Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and Machir the son of Ammiel of Lodebar, and Barzillai the Gileadite of Rogelim,28Brought beds, and basons, and earthen vessels, and wheat, and barley, and flour, and parched corn , and beans, and lentiles, and parched pulse ,29And honey, and butter, and sheep, and cheese of kine, for David, and for the people that were with him, to eat: for they said, The people is hungry, and weary, and thirsty, in the wilderness.
