1 No reprendas al anciano, sino exhórtalo como a un padre; a los jóvenes, como a hermanos; 2 a las ancianas, como a madres; a las más jóvenes, como a hermanas, con toda pureza. 3 Honra a las viudas (las realmente viudas); 4 pero si alguna viuda tiene hijos o nietos, aprendan primero éstos a ser piadosos con su propia familia, y a recompensar a sus progenitores, porque esto es agradable delante de Dios. 5 Ahora bien, la que es realmente viuda y ha quedado sola, tiene puesta su esperanza en Dios, y persevera en súplicas y oraciones noche y día; 6 pero la que se entrega a los placeres, viviendo está muerta. 7 Manda también estas cosas, para que sean irreprensibles, 8 porque si alguno no provee para los suyos, y mayormente para los de su familia, es peor que un incrédulo y ha negado la fe. 9 Sea incluida en la lista la viuda no menor de sesenta años, mujer de un solo marido, 10 aprobada por buenas obras: Si crió hijos, si mostró hospitalidad, si lavó los pies de los santos, si socorrió a los afligidos, si se dedicó a toda buena obra. 11 Pero no incluyas viudas más jóvenes, porque cuando impulsadas por la pasión se apartan del Mesías, desean casarse, 12 exponiéndose a ser acusadas por haber quebrantado la primera promesa, 13 y aprenden también a estar ociosas, yendo de casa en casa; y no sólo ociosas, sino también chismosas y entremetidas, hablando las cosas que no deben. 14 Por tanto, deseo que las más jóvenes se casen, críen hijos, sean buenas amas de casa, no dando al adversario ninguna ocasión de maledicencia; 15 porque algunas ya se extraviaron en pos de Satanás. 16 Si alguna creyente tiene viudas, manténgalas, y no sea gravada la iglesia, a fin de que ayude a las que realmente son viudas. 17 Los ancianos que guían apropiadamente, sean tenidos por dignos de doble honra, especialmente los que trabajan arduamente en la palabra y enseñanza. 18 Porque la Escritura dice: No pondrás bozal al buey que trilla. Y: Digno es el obrero de su salario. 19 Contra un anciano no aceptes acusación, excepto en presencia de dos o tres testigos. 20 A los que continúan pecando, repréndelos delante de todos, para que también los demás tengan temor. 21 Te encargo solemnemente delante de Dios y de Jesús el Mesías y de los ángeles escogidos, que obedezcas estas normas sin prejuicio, no haciendo nada con parcialidad. 22 No impongas las manos con ligereza ni te hagas partícipe de pecados ajenos; consérvate puro. 23 Ya no bebas agua, sino usa un poco de vino por causa de tu estómago y de tus frecuentes enfermedades. 24 Los pecados de algunos hombres se hacen notorios antes del juicio, en tanto que a otros, en verdad, los van siguiendo. 25 Asimismo también las buenas obras son evidentes, y las que son diferentes no pueden ser escondidas.

1 Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren; 2 The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity. 3 Honour widows that are widows indeed. 4 But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God. 5 Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day. 6 But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth. 7 And these things give in charge, that they may be blameless. 8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel. 9 Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man, 10 Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints' feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work. 11 But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry; 12 Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith. 13 And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not. 14 I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully. 15 For some are already turned aside after Satan. 16 If any man or woman that believeth have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed. 17 Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine. 18 For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward. 19 Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses. 20 Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear. 21 I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality. 22 Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men's sins: keep thyself pure. 23 Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities. 24 Some men's sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after. 25 Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid.
