1El Arca de YHVH había permanecido siete meses en el campo de los filisteos,2cuando los filisteos convocaron a los sacerdotes y adivinos para preguntarles: ¿Qué haremos con el Arca de YHVH? Hacednos saber de qué manera la hemos de enviar a su lugar.3Y respondieron: Si enviáis el Arca del Dios de Israel, no se la enviéis vacía, sino que la devolveréis a Él con una ofrenda por la culpa, y entonces seréis sanados, y se os hará saber por qué su mano no se apartó de vosotros.4Y ellos preguntaron: ¿Cuál será la ofrenda por la culpa que le habremos de devolver? Y respondieron: Cinco hemorroides de oro y cinco ratones de oro, conforme al número de los príncipes de los filisteos, por cuanto una misma plaga estuvo sobre todos vosotros y sobre vuestros príncipes.5Por tanto, os haréis figuras de vuestras hemorroides, y figuras de los ratones que infectan vuestra tierra, y daréis gloria al Dios de Israel, que quizá aliviará su mano de sobre vosotros, y de sobre vuestros dioses, y de sobre vuestra tierra.6¿Por qué, pues, queréis endurecer vuestros corazones, como endurecieron su corazón los egipcios y Faraón? ¿Acaso cuando Él realizó maravillas ante ellos, no dejaron ir al pueblo de manera que éste partió?7Ahora pues, tomad y preparad un carro nuevo, y tomad dos vacas que estén criando, sobre las cuales no se haya puesto ningún yugo: uncid las vacas al carro y dejad a sus becerros lejos de ellas, en el establo.8Después tomaréis el Arca de YHVH y la pondréis en el carro, y los objetos de oro que le devolvéis como ofrenda por la culpa, los pondréis en un cofre al lado de ella, y la dejaréis que se vaya.9Y observaréis: Si sube por el camino de su territorio hacia Bet-semes, Él nos ha hecho este gran mal, pero si no, entonces sabremos que no es su mano la que nos ha herido, sino que nos ocurrió por accidente.10Y aquellos hombres lo hicieron así: Tomaron dos vacas que estaban criando, las uncieron al carro y encerraron sus becerros en el establo.11Luego colocaron el Arca de YHVH en el carro, junto con el cofre con los ratones de oro y con las figuras de sus hemorroides.12Y las vacas entonces, tomando la vía recta por el camino de Bet-semes, seguían una misma senda andando y mugiendo, sin apartarse ni a derecha ni a izquierda; y los príncipes de los filisteos fueron tras ellas hasta el límite de Bet-semes.13Y los de Bet-semes estaban segando el trigo en el valle, y alzando sus ojos, divisaron el Arca y se regocijaron al verla.14Y el carro llegó al campo de Josué betsemita, y se detuvo allí, donde había una gran piedra. Ellos entonces partieron la madera del carro, y ofrecieron las vacas en holocausto a YHVH.15Porque los levitas habían bajado el Arca de YHVH y el cofre que estaba a su lado, que tenía dentro los objetos de oro, y los habían colocado sobre aquella gran piedra. Luego, los hombres de Bet-semes hicieron subir holocaustos y sacrificaron víctimas a YHVH en aquel día.16Y cuando los cinco príncipes de los filisteos vieron esto, regresaron a Ecrón aquel mismo día.17Y las hemorroides de oro que los filisteos pagaron a YHVH como ofrenda por la culpa, son estas: una por Asdod, una por Gaza, una por Ascalón, una por Gat y una por Ecrón.18Y los ratones de oro eran conforme al número de todas las ciudades de los filisteos pertenecientes a los cinco príncipes, tanto de ciudades fortificadas como de aldeas sin muro. La gran piedra sobre la cual colocaron el Arca de YHVH, permanece hasta este día en el campo de Josué betsemita.19Pero el Señor castigó a los hombres de Bet-semes porque habían mirado dentro del Arca de YHVH. De todo el pueblo hizo morir a cincuenta mil setenta hombres, y el pueblo hizo duelo porque YHVH lo había castigado con gran mortandad.20Entonces los hombres de Bet-semes dijeron: ¿Quién podrá permanecer en pie delante de YHVH, este Dios tan santo? ¿Y a quién subirá desde nosotros?21Y enviaron mensajeros a los habitantes de Quiriat-jearim, diciendo: ¡Los filisteos han devuelto el Arca de YHVH! Bajad, y hacedla subir con vosotros.

1And the ark of the LORD was in the country of the Philistines seven months.2And the Philistines called for the priests and the diviners, saying, What shall we do to the ark of the LORD? tell us wherewith we shall send it to his place.3And they said, If ye send away the ark of the God of Israel, send it not empty; but in any wise return him a trespass offering: then ye shall be healed, and it shall be known to you why his hand is not removed from you.4Then said they, What shall be the trespass offering which we shall return to him? They answered, Five golden emerods, and five golden mice, according to the number of the lords of the Philistines: for one plague was on you all, and on your lords.5Wherefore ye shall make images of your emerods, and images of your mice that mar the land; and ye shall give glory unto the God of Israel: peradventure he will lighten his hand from off you, and from off your gods, and from off your land.6Wherefore then do ye harden your hearts, as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their hearts? when he had wrought wonderfully among them, did they not let the people go, and they departed?7Now therefore make a new cart, and take two milch kine, on which there hath come no yoke, and tie the kine to the cart, and bring their calves home from them:8And take the ark of the LORD, and lay it upon the cart; and put the jewels of gold, which ye return him for a trespass offering, in a coffer by the side thereof; and send it away, that it may go.9And see, if it goeth up by the way of his own coast to Bethshemesh, then he hath done us this great evil: but if not, then we shall know that it is not his hand that smote us: it was a chance that happened to us.10And the men did so; and took two milch kine, and tied them to the cart, and shut up their calves at home:11And they laid the ark of the LORD upon the cart, and the coffer with the mice of gold and the images of their emerods.12And the kine took the straight way to the way of Bethshemesh, and went along the highway, lowing as they went, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left; and the lords of the Philistines went after them unto the border of Bethshemesh.13And they of Bethshemesh were reaping their wheat harvest in the valley: and they lifted up their eyes, and saw the ark, and rejoiced to see it .14And the cart came into the field of Joshua, a Bethshemite, and stood there, where there was a great stone: and they clave the wood of the cart, and offered the kine a burnt offering unto the LORD.15And the Levites took down the ark of the LORD, and the coffer that was with it, wherein the jewels of gold were , and put them on the great stone: and the men of Bethshemesh offered burnt offerings and sacrificed sacrifices the same day unto the LORD.16And when the five lords of the Philistines had seen it , they returned to Ekron the same day.17And these are the golden emerods which the Philistines returned for a trespass offering unto the LORD; for Ashdod one, for Gaza one, for Askelon one, for Gath one, for Ekron one;18And the golden mice, according to the number of all the cities of the Philistines belonging to the five lords, both of fenced cities, and of country villages, even unto the great stone of Abel, whereon they set down the ark of the LORD: which stone remaineth unto this day in the field of Joshua, the Bethshemite.19And he smote the men of Bethshemesh, because they had looked into the ark of the LORD, even he smote of the people fifty thousand and threescore and ten men: and the people lamented, because the LORD had smitten many of the people with a great slaughter.20And the men of Bethshemesh said, Who is able to stand before this holy LORD God? and to whom shall he go up from us?21And they sent messengers to the inhabitants of Kirjathjearim, saying, The Philistines have brought again the ark of the LORD; come ye down, and fetch it up to you.
