1Un varón del linaje de Leví fue y tomó por mujer a una hija de Leví.2La mujer concibió y dio a luz un hijo, y viendo que era hermoso, lo escondió tres meses.3Pero no pudiendo ocultarlo más tiempo, tomó una cesta de juncos, la calafateó con asfalto y brea, colocó al niño en ella, y la puso en el juncal, a la orilla del Nilo.4Y su hermana se había situado a lo lejos, para saber qué se haría con él.5Entonces la hija de Faraón bajó a bañarse al Nilo, y mientras sus doncellas andaban junto al Nilo, ella vio la cesta en medio del juncal y envió a su esclava, y ella la recogió.6Cuando la abrió vio al niño, y he aquí era un niñito que lloraba; y tuvo compasión de él, y exclamó: ¡Éste es uno de los niños de los hebreos!7Entonces dijo su hermana a la hija de Faraón: ¿Quieres que llame a una nodriza de las hebreas para que te amamante este niño?8Y la hija de Faraón le respondió: Ve. Entonces la muchacha fue y llamó a la madre del niño.9La hija de Faraón le dijo: Llévate a este niño, amamántamelo y yo te daré tu salario. Y la mujer tomó al niño y lo amamantó.10Y el niño creció, y ella lo llevó a la hija de Faraón y llegó a ser su hijo, y llamó su nombre Moisés, y dijo: En verdad lo he sacado de las aguas.11Sucedió en aquellos días que, siendo ya mayor, Moisés salió a sus hermanos y observó su servidumbre. Vio también a un egipcio que azotaba a un hebreo de entre sus hermanos.12Y él miró a uno y otro lado, y, viendo que no había nadie, mató al egipcio y lo escondió en la arena.13Al día siguiente salió, y he aquí dos hebreos estaban riñendo, y dijo al agresor: ¿Por qué golpeas a tu prójimo?14Y él respondió: ¿Quién te ha puesto como príncipe y juez sobre nosotros? ¿Piensas acaso asesinarme como asesinaste al egipcio? Entonces Moisés tuvo temor, y dijo: ¡Ciertamente el asunto ha sido descubierto!15Y Faraón oyó este asunto y procuró matar a Moisés, pero Moisés huyó de la presencia de Faraón y habitó en tierra de Madián.16Sentado allí junto a un pozo, vinieron las siete hijas que tenía el sacerdote de Madián a sacar agua y llenar los pilones para abrevar el rebaño de su padre.17Pero llegaron los pastores y las echaron. Entonces Moisés se levantó en su defensa y abrevó el rebaño de ellas.18Cuando ellas volvieron a Reuel su padre, éste les dijo: ¿Por qué habéis venido tan pronto hoy?19Y ellas dijeron: Un varón egipcio nos libró de mano de los pastores, y también diligentemente nos sacó el agua y abrevó el rebaño.20Y dijo a sus hijas: ¿Y dónde está? ¿Por qué habéis abandonado a ese varón? Llamadlo para que coma de nuestro pan.21Y Moisés aceptó habitar con aquel varón, y dio a Moisés su hija Séfora.22Ella le dio a luz un hijo, y él llamó su nombre Gersón, pues dijo: he venido a ser forastero en tierra extraña.23Después de muchos días, sucedió que el rey de Egipto murió, y los hijos de Israel gemían a causa de la esclavitud, y clamaron. Y por causa de la esclavitud, su clamor subió delante de ’Elohim.24Y oyó ’Elohim su gemido, y recordó ’Elohim su pacto con Abraham, con Isaac y con Jacob.25Y miró ’Elohim a los hijos de Israel, y ’Elohim los reconoció.

1And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi.2And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child , she hid him three months.3And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river' brink.4And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him.5And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river' side; and when she saw the ark among the flags, she sent her maid to fetch it.6And when she had opened it , she saw the child: and, behold, the babe wept. And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews'children.7Then said his sister to Pharaoh' daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee?8And Pharaoh' daughter said to her, Go. And the maid went and called the child' mother.9And Pharaoh' daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the woman took the child, and nursed it.10And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh' daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and she said, Because I drew him out of the water.11And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren.12And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.13And when he went out the second day, behold, two men of the Hebrews strove together: and he said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow?14And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known.15Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and he sat down by a well.16Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters: and they came and drew water , and filled the troughs to water their father' flock.17And the shepherds came and drove them away: but Moses stood up and helped them, and watered their flock.18And when they came to Reuel their father, he said, How is it that ye are come so soon to day?19And they said, An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and also drew water enough for us, and watered the flock.20And he said unto his daughters, And where is he? why is it that ye have left the man? call him, that he may eat bread.21And Moses was content to dwell with the man: and he gave Moses Zipporah his daughter.22And she bare him a son, and he called his name Gershom: for he said, I have been a stranger in a strange land.23And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage.24And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.25And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God had respect unto them .
