1The LORD also spake unto Joshua, saying,2Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses:3That the slayer that killeth any person unawares and unwittingly may flee thither: and they shall be your refuge from the avenger of blood.4And when he that doth flee unto one of those cities shall stand at the entering of the gate of the city, and shall declare his cause in the ears of the elders of that city, they shall take him into the city unto them, and give him a place, that he may dwell among them.5And if the avenger of blood pursue after him, then they shall not deliver the slayer up into his hand; because he smote his neighbour unwittingly, and hated him not beforetime.6And he shall dwell in that city, until he stand before the congregation for judgment, and until the death of the high priest that shall be in those days: then shall the slayer return, and come unto his own city, and unto his own house, unto the city from whence he fled.7And they appointed Kedesh in Galilee in mount Naphtali, and Shechem in mount Ephraim, and Kirjatharba, which is Hebron, in the mountain of Judah.8And on the other side Jordan by Jericho eastward, they assigned Bezer in the wilderness upon the plain out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh.9These were the cities appointed for all the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them, that whosoever killeth any person at unawares might flee thither, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stood before the congregation.

1Und der HERR redete zu Josua und sprach:2Rede zu den Kindern Israels und sprich: Bestimmt euch die Zufluchtsstädte, von denen ich euch durch Mose gesagt habe, (Ex 21:13; Nu 35:6; Nu 35:11; Nu 35:13; De 19:2; De 19:9)3dass der Totschläger dorthin fliehen soll, der einen Menschen aus Versehen und ohne Absicht erschlägt, damit sie euch als Zuflucht vor dem Bluträcher dienen. (Nu 35:12)4Und er soll zu einer dieser Städte fliehen und draußen vor dem Stadttor stehen und seine Sache vor die Ältesten dieser Stadt bringen; dann sollen sie ihn zu sich in die Stadt aufnehmen und ihm einen Platz geben, dass er bei ihnen wohnen kann. (Ru 4:1)5Und wenn der Bluträcher ihm nachjagt, so sollen sie den Totschläger nicht in seine Hände ausliefern, weil er seinen Nächsten ohne Absicht erschlagen hat und ihm zuvor nicht feind gewesen ist. Dann kann der Totschläger wieder zurückkehren und in seine Stadt gehen und in sein Haus, in die Stadt, aus der er geflohen ist. (Nu 35:12; Nu 35:22)7Da sonderten sie aus: Kedesch in Galiläa auf dem Bergland Naphtali, und Sichem im Bergland Ephraim, und Kirjat-Arba, das ist Hebron, im Bergland Juda. (Jos 12:22; Jos 14:15; Jos 15:13; Jos 17:7; Jos 21:11; Jos 21:13; Jos 21:21; Jos 21:32; Jud 9:1; 2Sa 2:3; 2Sa 5:5; 2Ch 10:1)8Und jenseits des Jordan, östlich von Jericho, bestimmten sie Bezer in der Wüste, auf der Ebene, vom Stamm Ruben, und Ramot in Gilead vom Stamm Gad, und Golan in Baschan vom Stamm Manasse.
